AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Pro-Palestinian protesters rallied in central Amsterdam on Wednesday, defying a ban imposed after violence stemming from a football match between Ajax and Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv. Dozens of demonstrators, some with Palestinian flags, chanted "Amsterdam is saying no to genocide" and "Free Palestine".

A multicultural association based in Amsterdam-Oost warned that it learned of the possibility that people might attempt to riot in the city’s eastern district. The Assadaaka Community group issued the appeal against violence on Wednesday evening,

Police have detained dozens of people for taking part in a demonstration in central Amsterdam that had been outlawed following violent clashes targeting fans of an Israeli soccer club.

Dutch police on Tuesday detained several people in Amsterdam defying a protest ban enforced after violent clashes between locals and Israeli soccer fans last week, and who were holding up white banners in front of city hall,

Police in the Netherlands have made five new arrests over the violence that ensued after Ajax's game with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday evening. Five people were taken to hospital after people on scooters carried out “hit-and-run” attacks on Israeli fans after the match.
