Owasso Public Schools, the district where Nex Benedict died following a fight at school, violated federal law, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

The Department of Education announced Wednesday that the Owasso school district in Oklahoma violated Title IX due to sexual harassment in its schools, a finding that comes months after the death of Nex Benedict.

The Department of Education announced that Oklahoma's Owasso Public Schools has agreed to “remedy violations of Title IX” following LGBTQ+ student Nex Benedict's death.

The district must take corrective action after it was found to violate the rights of LGBTQ+ students and others who were bullied.
