The NWS notified the WNC area at 11:21 a.m. that Helene has passed most of the area, but significant impacts including serious flooding continue. The storm is now located about 80 miles west-southwest of Asheville, centered over the Smoky Mountains and moving north at 32 mph.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Helene will be felt across much of the Mid-South area Friday, in the form of “areas of heavy rain,” and “pockets of gusting winds.” According to the National Weather Service,

Helene is now a tropical storm as it sweeps across Georgia. Metro Atlanta is contending with dangerous flooding and the ongoing threat of powerful wind gusts. Right now: Nearly 34,000 Georgia Power customers in the Atlanta area were without power as of 6am Friday morning.
