The program had eight analysts involved with coaching activities during spring and fall of 2022, and spring of 2023. That is more than the program is allowed to use, and that is what violated NCAA rules.

Southern California's football program has been fined $50,000 and placed on probation for one year by the NCAA because of multiple violations of coaching staff rules over two seasons. The NCAA and USC announced Tuesday that they reached a settlement in the case.

USC coach Lincoln Riley exceeded the number of staff members allowed to act as coaches and was sanctioned by the NCAA, the organization announced.

As if his third year at USC wasn’t already tumultuous enough, Lincoln Riley is now on probation. On Tuesday, the NCAA announced that USC football has been placed on probation for one year, following a lengthy collaborative investigation that determined the program had violated previously in-place bylaws around analysts engaging in countable coaching activities.
